Should i use dtc in snow

Obviously do this in the dry with warm tyres. That's with ponies and a mountain of torque. The car with it on out of bends is so severely restricted untill the car is straight. Only then does the car accelerate with all it's guts. Obviously stability contol has many merits but to enable you quickly out of a bend like you want to is not one of them!! Here are a few things to think about. It just takes a little more concentration and awareness. Use small, slow motions. It will just make things worse. Keep your foot in it. That noise means the anti-lock brakes are working. Most important, slow down. Keep your head on a swivel, drive defensively, and stay away from drugs and trans fats.

This is not something to put off. There are few worse sounds than the death of a battery as you try to crank the engine. I turned off the traction control to get more power to straighten the car and then put it back on to control the wheel spin which helped me ease it up in 2nd until I was moving forward again.

The physics are interesting, but you can experience the effects for yourself by leave DSC engage and going a bit too fast into a corner safely off course. Safest way I tested it is to go into one of those merge intersection at a reasonable speed but one that you know is too fast for the car to go through without a bit of skidding, just let it cruise through and you'll see how you feel as if you are losing speed and the car will adjust as if on rails.

Of course don't attempt this on busy streets or if you are not confident of your ability to take control if anything goes wrong and don't push it too much, even computers can't break the laws of physics.

This would not be possible to the same extend with DSC fully on. Over- and understeer is still very much prevented according to my experience EDIT: Nah, I was wrong it is possible to over-steer in this mode as well. But this mode was made for fun on dry roads and I think this mode will give you the fastest possible lap times in most cases.

With the DCT transmission this is also the only mode where launch control and the fastest gear shifts become available. The e-diff is probably still active up to a certain speed, but again, its hard to find the documentation for this. I know for sure that ABS is still active, but neither under- nor oversteer is corrected to any degree. As documented on youtube, with DSC off, you can finally pull drifts and donuts with a stock Z4. In conclusion, what you need in the snow is the DTC which tries to keep you from any under and oversteer while allowing wheel-spin in order to find traction if needed.

You would not want any wheelspin or oversteer at higher speeds, because then things could quickly get out of control. Last edited by Asbjorn; at AM.. Nice reply Asbjorn. Lots of details and explanation. With no snow tires, DTC didn't help me to get out snow, when chains in my trunk did.. Lieutenant General. In your case, I would keep it on for sure. If the traction is so bad you are starting to get sideways just for a light start, it is good to have all the electronic assistance possible.

Thx all for your replies. Really useful info and I learned a lot. Originally Posted by nicknaz. If you are in DTC mode you will need to counter steer etc. I hear this is the best way to drive in snow.
