I personally didn't find it offensive, I thought it was an amusing little scenario with someone like Rainbow Dash being forced to work with a klutz, but people saw it as poking fun at mentally handicapped people. They had to stop calling her Derpy and change the voice acting to make her sound more normal for lack of a better word. If you haven't seen the voice change, you should check it out on YouTube. Personally, I think they could have turned her into a real asset by making her the star of an episode about respect for the mentally handicapped, but that could be a whole 'nother discussion right there.
To get straight to the point, Derpy herself isn't going anywhere, but her name is, at least officially. I mean, she was the Fair and SDCC pony last year, and she's being released as a regular-sized brushable this summer, just not as "Derpy". She's too popular with the bronies to get rid of her completely, and whatever they call her officially, the bronies will think of her as Derpy anyway.
As long as Hasbro leaves her in the background and doesn't call attention to her or her, um, challenges , I can't see there being a problem. I personally think Derpy is a cute little Where's Waldo game, and I'd like to see her in the show. I also like her design overall. They could finally have someone on TV who was just like them. MLP treated Derpy respectfully and to remove her is to concede to the overly PC people who think it's offensive. They haven't sat down next to a 5 year old girl with Down's as I have, watching as she wept in happiness to see someone like her on TV. The people who complained were short sighted soccer mothers who didn't want their children to know there were such things as people who are disabled.

Ditzy as Derpy was never once confirmed and for all we know it could be another pony who is just as clumsy. And I don't know what is the worst pony and actions. Someone cant remember who recently tweeted that a certain muffin loving gray pegasus will be coming back for season 4. So I'm annoyed about a season with no Derpy but at least she is probably coming back. Hasbro confirmed that Derpy isnt coming back. Not very likely and if it happens, I'll be surprised. Those who are pro-derpy will sign petitions and emails and such but we will not sue. That one offended mother will sue which is stupid. Even something so simple about a character can make my day. Derpy's voice was one of them. I really do miss Derpy I guess. I know she was an inspiration to muffins and derpiness. But, since people won't shut up about her Hasbro might as well bring her back.. And she is probably one of the most adorable ponies other than Flutters and CMC And now stupid Hasbro doesn't want her in the show, but she's so much fun to look for!
